Instructions for beginners
This error message is one of the most common you can encounter when working with your website. The error means an unknown error has occurred on the website itself, but our server cannot determine exactly what. Below we describe how you can fix the problem.
As mentioned above, 500 Internal Server Error is an error on your website caused by your website. It’s not due to us, your computer, or your internet connection.
Start by checking your logs, which you can find in your control panel by navigating to Web > Server Logs. There you’ll often find an explanation of what the specific error is. We often see this is caused by a failed update of your website’s CMS, an error in the .htaccess file, or a permissions error in your files/folders.
If you can’t find any issues when reviewing your CMS and thus can’t fix it manually, we recommend you restore your website. You can either restore files/folders or the entire website. We keep backups for 14 days and recommend you restore from the most recent time you know the site was working.
