Free up space on your hosting

Are you running out of space in your hosting package? The files stored on FTP (website content), email messages, and databases take up space in your account. In this guide, we’ll show you how to clean up these items and free up more space.

Website Content – FTP

To clean up your web files, you first need to create an FTP account and log in via our webFTP or with an FTP client like Filezilla or Cyberduck.

In our webFTP, you’ll find all the files for your website. Select the files you want to delete or delete the entire folder where the files are located. Just be sure that your website isn’t using the files you’re deleting. If you accidentally delete something, you can restore a backup from the control panel.

Email

To free up space on the web hosting by deleting email messages there are three options:

  1. Delete mail for a specific email address via webmail. There you can select multiple emails at once and click delete at the top right. To free up space on the web hosting, these messages must also be deleted from the trash.
  2. Delete messages through the email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail…) where you can select multiple messages at once and delete them. Again, remember to delete the email messages from the trash.
  3. Delete the entire email address through the control panel: Select the domain > click Email and to the right of a specific mailbox click the 3 dots > click delete and confirm.
This will delete all the content for the email address. Just remember to save any messages locally before deleting the email address.

Database

Databases that you no longer use can be deleted in the control panel to free up more space: Select the domain > click Database and to the right of a specific database click the 3 dots > click delete and confirm.

Just be sure that your website isn’t using the database you’re deleting. If you accidentally delete something, you can restore a backup from the control panel.
