Edit folder/directory permissions

Each file and folder has permissions and ownership rights. In this article, we’ll go through what permissions exist and how to edit them via FTP.


Chmod (change mode) is a command used on Unix systems to define access permissions for files and folders.

Edit permissions via webFTP

  1. Log in to FTP
  2. Click the folder/file’s permissions.
  3. A window opens where you can set the permissions for the file/folder in question.

Edit permissions via FileZilla

  1. Log in to FTP
  2. Right-click the folder or filename you want to edit permissions for.
    • Select File Permissions at the bottom.
  3. Edit the necessary permissions and save the changes.
