On January 1st, 2026, Gmail will shut down its feature for retrieving emails from external addresses via POP3. If you have been using Gmail to fetch emails via POP3 and have not chosen to keep copies of the emails on the original server, you can download all emails from your Gmail account and import them to your address with us. <\/p>\n\n

Before we begin<\/h2>\n\n

Our recommendation is to export the emails from Google using their own tools. You will receive an .mbox file, which you can then import using an email client such as Thunderbird or Apple Mail, but not Outlook. This guide will be based on Thunderbird.<\/p>\n\n

Exportera och Importera<\/h2>\n\n

Start by exporting all emails from Gmail. Here is Google\u2019s documentation on this.<\/a> But we summarize it below.<\/p>\n\n

  1. Visit https:\/\/takeout.google.com\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Select only \u2018Mail\u2019. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Continue through the guide. Afterwards, an .mbox file will be sent to you. As Google itself states, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to several days, depending on how many emails need to be exported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. If you\u2019re not already using Thunderbird, download it here: https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. After installing Thunderbird, add your email address with us using this guide: https:\/\/kunskap.websupport.se\/en\/kb\/email-settings-in-mozilla-thunderbird\/<\/a> (It is important to add it as an IMAP account in this case, not POP3).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Install the \u2018ImportExportTools NG<\/strong>\u2019 add-on in Thunderbird. (Click the three lines at the top right and select \u2018Add-ons and Themes\u2019.) Search for \u2018ImportExportTools NG<\/em>\u2019 and click \u2018+ Add to Thunderbird\u2019. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. In Thunderbird, select \u2018Local Folders\u2019 (or whichever folder you want to import this into) in the menu on the left.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Right-click on the selected folder and choose \u2018ImportExportTools NG\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. \u201cIn that menu, go to \u2018Import mbox files > Single mbox file\u2019.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Select the .mbox file from Google and click \u2018Open\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Your emails from Gmail will now be imported into the local folders in Thunderbird, and you can then \u2018drag and drop\u2019 the emails from the local folders to your email account with us. If you want to move all emails, press CTRL+A (or CMD+A on Mac) to select all emails before moving them. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    The emails you move to your address with us will then be uploaded to our servers. After that, you are free to use any email client you prefer. <\/p>\n\n
